The Strap of His Sandal

John answered them, “I baptize with water, but among you stands One you do not know, even He who comes after me, the strap of whose sandal I am not worthy to untie.”  John 1:26-27

“The strap of whose sandal I am not worthy to untie.” What a statement to make! On one hand, of course we know how strong, powerful, and holy Jesus is…so that just makes sense. But really think about that statement. Wow! Keeping that reality in our mind should/would/will change us. That not only silences our “rights” and arguments before Him. It also reminds us of His power. He is the source of purity and holiness. Without Him, holiness would not exist. Absolute holiness walked this earth. The very essence of righteousness and supreme power wore sandals and walked around among mankind. Interacted with people who weren’t worthy to untie the straps of His sandals. And not only did they not acknowledge that truth, He allowed them to humiliate, mock, torture, and kill Him. All to save them and make way for them (us) to be with Him. Truly we serve an AMAZING God. A God we do not have the words to describe, the mind to comprehend, or the ability to love and serve. We are poor. He is rich. He has everything we need. He offers us everything so we can know Him. So we can love Him. And so we can serve Him.

And we aren’t even worthy to untie the strap of His sandal.
